Virginia Health Services recently partnered with Virginia Peninsula Community College to offer evening classes as part of our earn-as-you-learn CNA apprenticeship program. It was featured in an article on the VPCC website on April 7, 2025.
The first session of evening classes started early in April and will last eight weeks. It includes classroom experience, clinical skills labs and on-the-floor experience at one of Virginia Health Services’ seven nursing and rehabilitation centers.
VPCC, through its Workforce Development department, provides the instructors for the evening session.
Students applied through VHS and have to complete eligibility requirements with VPCC. Graduates from the program remain team members with VHS, with a 12-month employment obligation.
VHS offers a six-week daytime apprenticeship program with instructors from its education team. It is offered several times throughout the year.
Interested students recently met with VHS President and CEO Mark Klyczek, Senior Recruiter Colleen Reynolds and VPCC Workforce Development program director Eddie Swain during an information session.
Mark said there is opportunity to provide more opportunities to strengthen the healthcare workforce in partnership with VPCC during the session, including in LPN and RN career pathways.
