Virginia Health Services President and CEO Mark Klyczek was featured on an episode of Provider Magazine‘s Long-Term Care podcast that posted July 14, 2025.
Host Debbie Stadtler and Mark primarily discussed the impact of VHS’ earn-as-you-learn apprenticeship program that graduates Care Assistants to Nurse Aides and covers the cost of the state certification exam to be a CNA. Mark said the program is essential to building the VHS team and aids career development.
Mark shared several success stories from the apprenticeship program, including those who have gone on to enroll in nursing school to be RNs, moved on to other positions at our nursing and rehabilitation centers such as recreational therapy, and more. He outlined how the program started through federal grants and other partnership funding, and why it was vital to maintain it when funds dried up.
He also pointed out the benefits of WorkWell, which assists team members with life situations, such as finding assistance for heating and cooling bills, locating affordable daycare options and housing assistance.
